Youth Explore
Introduction
Our Youth Explore programme provides ethnic youth a safe space where they can develop and grow into their best potential self. The aim of this programme is to provide a foundation for our youth to grow and flourish as there are opportunities for them to engage in deep conversations and form solid friendships. Our programme comprises of a series of workshops, community engagements, overnight camps and interactive activities that challenges the youth to step out of their comfort zones and accept new challenges.
Some of the activities we have delivered in the past few months are:
- An overnight camp to Mt. Pirongia where our youth were challenged to
- Learn kayaking
- Give a go at flying fox and abseiling
- Learn Bush Skills
- Youth Hui hosted by the Ministry of Youth Development to help bring the youth together to participate in a conversation about turning youth’s voices into action. This Youth Plan was an opportunity for young people to share their thoughts on Youth Voice, Mental Well-being and Leadership.
- Pre-Employment Skills workshop which was centred around writing a cover letter, CV and what experience looks good on paper, job search tools, interview questions and interview preparation delivered by YWRC.
Youth volunteering to serve food at the Communi-Tea hosted by the Glenview Community Centre.
Other activities include: Movie nights, bowling, mini-golfing, cricket games among many others.
During the lockdown period, we had weekly challenges that kept our youth engaged.
