Position Title: Community Development and Training Lead (CDTL)
Fixed Term: 6 months (20 hours per week)
Hourly Rate: $35-38/hour
Responsible to: Operations Manager, Shama Ethnic Women’s Trust
Location: Based at Shama’s Liverpool Centre, Hamilton, with occasional regional travel

About Shama Ethnic Women’s Trust:

Shama Ethnic Women’s Trust (commonly known as Shama) is a charitable trust formed in 2002 after the identification of a gap in available services for ethnic women and their families that are run by ethnic women. Shama aims to support the development of a truly multicultural New Zealand where all women from ethnic* minorities would be fully integrated into New Zealand society, to live lives of dignity, free from fear of violence and discrimination, and to be recognised as valuable contributors to their local communities.
We are looking for a Community Development and Training Lead (CDTL) to provide leadership and oversight for Shama’s community development work, while advancing the development of Shama’s Cultural Safety Training into a sustainable social enterprise.
In this 6-month fixed-term role, you’ll help ensure the smooth delivery of community programmes, coordinate and guide a small team, and contribute to shaping Shama’s social enterprise journey.
This position is ideal for someone with strong community development experience, cultural awareness, and a passion for empowering diverse communities through leadership and collaboration.

Key responsibilities:

● Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to the community development team (based in Hamilton, Tauranga, and Auckland).
● Provide oversight and support in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of community development programmes, including the work in Waikato, Bay of Plenty and nationally.
● Contribute to developing and implementing a practical plan to help establish Shama’s Cultural Safety Training as a viable social enterprise.
● Strengthen collaboration across Shama’s community and training initiatives to ensure alignment and consistency.
● Build and maintain strong relationships with ethnic networks, community groups, and partner organisations.
● Oversee reporting, data collection, and evaluation processes to ensure quality and accountability.
● Promote and maintain health and safety standards across all community programmes and events.

Key requirements:

● Proven experience in community development, programme coordination, or social enterprise development.
● A strong understanding of ethnic communities and culturally responsive practice in Aotearoa.
● Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
● Experience managing teams and supporting collaborative work environments.
● Strong organisational and reporting skills.
● Has the necessary immigration status and documentation to work in New Zealand.
● Has computer skills, and actively uses social media.
● Ability to speak 1 or 2 ethnic languages will be an advantage.
● Full NZ drivers Licence will be an advantage.
