Introducing Joanna

We are proud to welcome Joanna Jensen to our team. Joanna is responsible for the delivery of our long term therapeutic service for survivors of sexual violence. She also works as a self-employed private practitioner, doing clinical supervision, senior social work, funding advisory, and counselling. We are thrilled to have her expertise on board to support our therapeutic team.

Previously, Joanna was the Social Work and Counselling Manager at CNSST Foundation for over 9 years. She completed a Master of Social Work in Korea, which was quite a different concept to social work in New Zealand, and much more closely related to counselling. After graduating as a clinical social worker, she worked for the Child Mental Health Clinic in Seoul for four years. In 1995 she migrated to New Zealand and focussed on her four children for the next few years and then later did a Postgraduate diploma in Social Work at Massey University. More recently she gained a Certificate in Clinical Supervision from the University of Auckland. Last year, she was privileged to be part of the Expert Design Group for ‘Family Violence and Sexual Violence towards the Whanau’, a Ministry of Justice initiative. The purpose of this group was to set up family violence organisational standards as well as practical guidelines for specialists. Through the group’s journey she learned, and was challenged by, different values and approaches to diverse needs within our communities. As a member of an ethnic minority herself, she is very keen to work with women and children in ethnic community development, particularly survivors of family violence and sexual violence.
