Shama is bringing the most glamorous ethnic event in Aotearoa on the21st of May 2022.
This year, the Fashion Fusion Show will have 2 main categories: traditional outfits and wedding/party dresses. We are also open to including other unique pieces, styles, or accessories you’d like to contribute (hats, jewellery, scarves, etc.). We are also interested in demonstrating items that are important for cultures. For example, last time, we demonstrated how to put on a Sari, the many uses that African communities give to a scarf, or the different ways that Muslim communities use the hijab according to the country they are from.
Communities are invited to share their unique traditional dress, wedding dress, or doing a demonstration.
People are welcome to model their own outfits. It is really important to keep our feminist values for this event. We are looking for a diversity of women (all sizes, colours, ages, and beauties). We want real women that feel pride in their own unique bodies 🙂 Men and people of all genders are welcome to participate too.
We are also looking to showcase ethnic fashion designers, so if you are one, please get in touch!
This event is going ahead at The Meteor, regardless of the Covid levels. We have planned the event in 2 ways to go ahead safely:
- With COVID in the community: Participants can contribute separately. We will film the show for a premier online event, which will give a larger audience a chance to be involved.
- With no Covid in the community: The event will be a 2-hour Fashion Show with an audience (it will also be filmed)
