Vacancy – Human Resources Coordinator

We are looking for the best Human Resources Coordinator (HRC) to provide end-to-end human resources support across Shama. This role ensures effective recruitment, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, HR administration, and volunteer coordination to support Shama’s mission and the well-being of staff and volunteers.

The HRC acts as a key link between management and employees, ensuring that Shama attracts, recruits, and supports the best staff and volunteers while maintaining a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive workplace.  The role also supports organisational compliance, maintains HR systems and records, and assists managers and the Board of Trustees with policy development and implementation.

  • Position Title: Human Resources Coordinator
  • Location: Hamilton, 8 Liverpool Street
  • Position Term: Fixed term – 1 year / 30 hours per week
  • Work mode: On-site 
  • Salary: $30–$33 per hour, based on experience

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Understanding of ethnic communities and diverse cultural backgrounds in New Zealand
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in human resources or a similar role
  • Experience working with volunteers or in the community / not-for-profit sector preferred
  • Knowledge of New Zealand employment law and HR best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital workplace systems
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Understanding of the community and non-profit sector
  • The ability to speak 1 or 2 ethnic languages will be an advantage
